Dark Crystal Collection - Outcast AU - Sketches

A collection of sketches for an AU (alternate universe) in which the Skeksis Emperor skekSo is usurped from his throne and banished out into the wilds of Thra to live his life alone by skekSil (whom manages to convince most of the other Skeksis to rise against him and dethrone their current Emperor).

SkekVar is also banished alongside skekSo as he is the most loyal to the Emperor, thus setting off and living his life alongside skekSo out in the wilds. They soon become mates and produce a child of their own (and yes I am aware the Skeksis and Urru can not reproduce in canon, but in this AU, it was a chance of luck to actually have a child and not have it die. And it has been confirmed with the creators that the Skeksis and Urru are of both sexes as well). In the wilds, the Skeksis family live out their lives as peacefully and disconnected to the others as best they can and much to the surprise of others, skekSil has a better control of things as the new Emperor. While the Gelfling are still being drained for their essence, its only in a small quantities and the Darkening is no longer as prevalent as it was before.

Things are a bit more peaceful in this AU, though even at peace, skekSo plans his revenge on skekSil for what the Chamberlin has done and will soon enact upon it when the day is just right.

After hours of searching, skekVar finally finds skekSo hiding within a large tree. SkekVar carefully enters to console the injured Skeksis, who is too ashamed to even look the General in the eye. All skekVar can do is comfort him as best he can.

After a bit of time and convincing, both Skeksis finally make their way from the tree to make their into a new home somewhere in the dense wilds.

After a few months of getting their lives back together, the pair fall for one another and take each other as mates. Here, the happy pair spends some time together in silence.

Soon enough, they are greeted with a Skekling of their own to care for, marking a new chapter for their lives.

Happy and tired out, the new family finally rests quietly for the night with one another.

As skekSaav (their child) grows older, skekSo becomes more protective and weary while skekVar is more lax. Here he attempts to call for his child to play while skekSo silently denies permission.

Sometime later, skekSaav rummages through the only belongings the two still have left and finds the crystal shard that was once on skekSo's scepter. Curious, he asks skekSo what it is and he happily tells him.
